XR BRISTOL'S REBEL FROM HOME

Lets Raise Our Voices to Work Towards a Better Future

To enhance actions and keep the movement going from a digital approach, rebelling from home can be as easy as posting a picture or sending an email.  Bristol City Council have made grand promises to address the climate emergency, though with associations like WECA and a very vague legislative time line, these promises seem empty.  As the Bristol mayoral and councilor elections approach (6th May), our voices will be more important than ever to hold the council responsible for their promises on addressing Climate Change.

MAKE THIS ONE ABOUT THE AIRPORT, DO SOME READING AND RESEARCH BEFOREHAND

WHAT:

Forming an Affinity Group with friends and local rebels is a fun way of doing independent actions on causes you feel strongly about!  XR Bristol has always been a lively crew, so taking action is a great way to keep energy up all year round.  Representing the Bristol region at G7 as an AG will be full of exciting actions that you can do with a group of mates.

HOW:

Head to Zoom G7 Affinity Group formation meetings on May 15th and 22nd from 11:00-1:00 PM and May 18th from 6:30-8:30 PM. Meet rebels and come up with actions for G7 and beyond!

Zoom ID: 860 7461 0086

Passcode: 730079

WHY:

AGs can act independently (in accordance with XR values) to bring attention to important movements!  They're a great way to make waves and meet like-minded individuals and feel connected to XR even when you can't make it to Rebellion or other large events!

STOP THE BILL

A strong test against our democracy has been deployed.  Priti Patel has proposed the new "Police, Crime, Sentencing, and Courts Bill".  Within the bill, laws against protest are designed to give protestors the potential of up to 10 years in prison for being a "serious annoyance", 10 years for defacing a statue, and allowing police to set noise levels for protest.  These implications are incredibly damaging for our free speech, and for this bill to have already gotten through commons shows a grave disconnect between those that govern and the governed.

As XR Bristol, we support the non-violent protest against this bill.  In September, the bill will be read by the House of Lords.  Until then, we need to make as much noise as we can and bring this bill to the center of public attention.  By practicing NVDA on the streets, contacting your MPs to voice discontent with this law, and using hashtags like:
#killthebill
will all help contribute towards stopping this bill in its tracks.  Follow @killthebill_official on all social media platforms for more information.

SUPPORT THE CEE BILL

So far, over 100 MPs have publicly supported the Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill -- We need more.

The CEE Bill fights to directly address climate change as a serious threat in Parliament, and for radical solutions to be implemented.  We are due to experience a 1.4ºC increase in global temperature since pre-industrial times.  This would calamitously impact biodiversity, food security, and the earths ability to handle 'business-as-usual'. Bristol North West MP Darren Jones has publicly supported the bill.  Demand that all four Bristol MPs support the bill by tweeting or writing an email to the three Bristol MPs.

Even something as simple as using the hashtag #CEEBill or tagging your MP's in social media posts will spread awareness about the importance of the bill and call attention to its upcoming Parliament review on the 26th of March.

OUR AIR, OUR CITY

The air quality in Bristol has been illegal for twenty-six years.  XR Bristol is working alongside organizations like The African Voices Forum, Bristol Youth Strike 4 Climate, Medact, and the Black and Green Ambassadors to save the 300 lives a year that are caused by poor air quality in Bristol.  In this cross-organizational campaign, environmental impacts of air pollution are being addressed, along with economic, social, and health impacts.

There's lots of work to be done, and we can all do our part to support this campaign!  Through petitions and emailing your councilors we can call our representatives to action and spark conversations surrounding air quality in Bristol City Council.

ABOUT REBEL FROM HOME

A Platform for All

Rebel from Home seeks to help activists and concerned citizens alike to participate in local and national issues that WE can influence.  During Covid-19, activism and mass participation in protest has been put on hold for the safety and love of each other.  As a way of continuing to emphasize the urgency of mitigating the climate crisis, attached in this site will be links to participate in many petitions and address our councilors directly about important ecological issues like the airport expansion and the delayed post-Brexit Environment Bill.  This is a platform that ensures ALL members of the public can address climate change.
